We have experience across a broad range of data analytics and statistical applications, and we offer help with all aspects of data-based research.
Our consultants have Masters or PhD degrees, and all are accredited with the Statistical Society of Australia (AStat or GStat).
In the initial consultation, we often begin with asking about the problem at hand, or the key research questions; these questions may not be quantitative in nature, but will often relate to quantitative features that can be interrogated. We are interested in the study, the data and any analyses already conducted; we find this context essential. We are often curious about things like the measurement process, uncertainties in the data, if and why some observations may be missing, and known or expected causal relationships in the data.

Recent examples include modelling bird species populations, medical device meta-analyses, legal forecasting, lung cancer prognosis, antimicrobial resistance data, museum sampling, agricultural fertiliser trials, biosecurity border screening, waste audits, AI mammography and more.
What people are saying...
"We have worked closely with the University of Melbourne Statistical Consulting Centre since 2004 and have consistently valued the depth of statistical expertise and practical judgement provided, particularly by Professors Ian Gordon and Sue Finch. Their advice has been rigorous and transparent, helping ensure analyses are fit for purpose and clearly communicated. The Centre has an outstanding ability to translate complex statistical issues into clear, defensible conclusions that withstand scrutiny.
